Orchestrand Limited completes design of website for musician John Potter
Leeds website development company Orchestrand Ltd has completed the design of a website for musician John Potter (www.john-potter.co.uk). John Potter's writing and performing career embraces an extraordinarily wide variety of musical activity. Back in the Seventies he sang with Swingle II, the New London Consort, co-founded Electric Phoenix, Electronic Vocal Theatre and Fresh Ear Concerts and did backing vocals for Manfred Mann, the Who and Mike Oldfield, among others.
He joined the Hilliard Ensemble in 1984 and stayed for 17 years, taking a brief break in 1989 to found Red Byrd with bass Richard Wistreich. During this time he completed a PhD with Richard Middleton, the fruits of which became his first book Vocal Authority (Cambridge University Press, 1998). His first solo record for ECM came in 1999, and his Dowland Project's second album was a Sunday Times record of the year. Red Byrd continued to flourish during this period, with ground-breaking recordings of 12th century music for Hyperion.
Currently, John Potter divides his work into a number of overlapping areas. He continues to perform all over the world from his base at the University of York, where his teaching includes the music of Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis as well as 19th century opera and progressive rock. He also runs the MA in Vocal Studies and coaches vocal ensembles, an aspect of his work which also has an international dimension. He is currently writing and researching three books.
